I've replaced my five hard disks, full of personal stuff propagated in some partitions and many folders, with two new Seagate disks. (Good to mention: I'm not satisfied with these new disks; they are too noisy, get on my nerves!)
I used DBAN [Darik], a lovely tool, to wipe out all the disks. This time it was really needed.
DBAN creates bootable floppy disk, USB flash or CDROM (through Iso image) and it will DELETE all the attached hard disks at the next boot time. Depending on the level of security it reported me to wait from 6 hours to 18 hours.
It is a fact that even forcing a complete format does not mean that the data cannot be recovered by someone else! It is a point that many people ignore.
